I'm Rich, Navy veteran of Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield - I helped launch fighter jets off an aircraft carrier - and served as Master at Arms. I felt the adrenyline rush, pushed past the fear of deployment, the constant ready...the loss of brothers...missing family for long periods...long hours under high alert and constant action....
...coming home to people who didn't understand or appreciate the sacrifice because they had been so removed from the reality we lived every second of every day...every move an imparative...needing fulfillment not just a job because I am different...a purpose...I understand transition to the civilian world...the lack of discipline, purpose that is so frustrating...the people who accuse you of PTSD because you have a sense of urgency they lack.......
My Story
...I served 7 years in the US Navy both domestically and deployed, advanced to military police dealing with the worst cases of disfunction from the rigid lifestyle and came home to find purpose in work as a firefigher and then EMT, serving eventually in senior leadership of emergency management at the hospital level...and on boards for EMS, veterans affairs, and local government initiatives...
...Academically, I participated in the Top Gun Fall Class of 1989, Navy certified as Aircraft Mechanic and Master-at-Arms...as well as several classes in Resiliency and Stress Management...
...I am a 100% Disabled Veteran and an active member of the DAV, I know the weight of leadership, the loneliness all veterans feel apart from service, the frustrations of disability...and I can help. I've had to overcome, find purpose in civilian life, reintegrate into society, make up to my wife for long deployments, father my children after the fact...unique challenges for the veteran community....
